MacPaw is slowly but surely migrating macpaw.com to a new technology platform and seeks a Software Engineer (Backend) to speed up this move while ensuring our legacy system remains strong. Deep understanding of our current PHP codebase is required to effectively fix bugs and plan a smooth transition to the new technology.

We need an engineer who will inherit and build upon our existing PHP site, participating in the development of new functionalities for the platform.

Last but not least, a strong interest in working with TypeScript and NestJS is crucial for this position in the future.

In this role, you will:
  • Maintain and develop the main MacPaw website 
  • Gain a deep understanding of the current website architecture and functionality 
  • Create a comprehensive plan for refactoring the codebase 
  • Implement the refactoring plan 
  • Develop new functionalities & maintain legacy code
  • Contribute to the development of other web projects of the company (sometimes using WordPress)


Skills you’ll need to bring:
  • 3+ years of experience in designing and developing web applications
  • Profound experience with PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL OOP, MVC, API, REST development experience 
  • Understanding of Linux environment 
  • Understanding of HTML/CSS, JavaScript 
  • Experience with Docker 
  • Strong sense of ownership, ability to self-manage and work independently, great communication skills
  • Great ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and quickly switch between tasks
  • At least an Intermediate level of English & fluent Ukrainian
  • Being able to work in UTC+3 time zone

  • Node.js, TypeScript, Nest
