What if I lost my activation number?
A:

If you lost your Activation Number and can’t find it in your inbox, you can take advantage of our License Retrieval feature. If that doesn’t help, please contact us via this form.

What if my activation number doesn’t work?
A:

First, check to make sure that you entered your activation number correctly — maybe you’ve accidentally copy & pasted it with spaces or other invisible symbols. If you lost your Activation Number or the app gives you a message that it is already used, you can take advantage of our License Retrieval feature to retrieve the number and reset earlier activations, if needed.

Q:
What if I want to activate my copy of CleanMyMac on another Mac?
A:

CleanMyMac is licensed per computer, and your license number can only be used on one Mac at one time, unless it’s a license for multiple Macs. To upgrade your single license version to multiple Mac license, please contact Customer Support

To transfer your license to a different Mac, you need to first deactivate CleanMyMac on the current Mac. To do this, please launch CleanMyMac 3 and click on CleanMyMac 3 in your menu bar. Select Activation Info in the menu, and then click Deactivate License in the dialog that pops up. If you've removed the app already, or do not have access to that computer anymore, please refer to License Retrieval to reset your license via that tool.

It is very important to deactivate CleanMyMac before uninstalling it, otherwise you will not be able to activate CleanMyMac on another Mac with the same license number.

If you encounter problems deactivating and reactivating your license, please contact our Customer Support for assistance. After CleanMyMac has been deactivated, it can be installed and activated on the Mac of your choice with your original activation number.

Is CleanMyMac 3 compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra?

Currently, CleanMyMac 3 is fully compatible with the latest macOS 10.12 Sierra and you can download it on the CleanMyMac 3 page:

Do I need CleanMyMac 3 if there's Storage Optimization available in macOS 10.12 Sierra?

Together with this great feature from Apple, CleanMyMac 3 app perfectly complements Optimized Storage: when equipped with both, you get maximum free space and you can be sure every corner of your Mac is junk-free. While Apple's Optimized Storage works for system applications, CleanMyMac is doing more and optimizes the whole Mac.

How do I download and install CleanMyMac 3?
A:

You can download CleanMyMac 3 by clicking here. on the CleanMyMac 3 page. You will be prompted to save the download file. When your download is complete, you will be asked to drag the app into the applications folder.

After you have done this, CleanMyMac 3 will be ready to use.

How do I upgrade to a CleanMyMac 3 multiple computer license?
A:

As a CleanMyMac user, you can get a license for 2 or 5 Macs at a discounted rate. Please visit our store, scroll down to the field “Save on your next purchase…” and click “confirming”. Enter the email address you bought CleanMyMac with, and hit the Check button. After your email is verified, you’ll see discounted prices on all products, including License for 2 Macs and License for 5 Macs. If you need any help, please email our Support Team.

What are the system requirements for CleanMyMac 3?
A:

CleanMyMac 3 requires OS X 10.8 or higher and around 50 MB of free space to operate. If you haven’t upgraded your Mac to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you should take a look at CleanMyMac Classic! It’s designed for Macs as old as OS X 10.4 and can clean up outdated caches, logs, system junk, application leftovers and other trash on your Mac.

What are the limitations of the CleanMyMac 3 trial version?
A:

The trial version of CleanMyMac 3 scans your Mac entirely, but only allows you to clean up to 500 MB of unnecessary files on your Mac. Also the trial only allows you to use 3 of the Maintenance Utilities.

Q:
Why do I get the “Could not connect” or “Internal service Error” message when I try to activate CleanMyMac 3? 
A:

This message is usually displayed when CleanMyMac 3 is unable to connect to the server for activation. When CleanMyMac 3 is being activated it needs to connect to the server to verify the activation key. Sometimes CleanMyMac 3 can be blocked from connecting by a firewall or other internet security solutions. 

If you have received this error, please make sure to see that CleanMyMac 3 is not being blocked by security solutions. If you are sure that security software is not blocking connection to the server, but you are still experiencing this issue, please try connecting to a different network for activation. Sometimes network security settings can block the connection.

How do I upgrade to CleanMyMac 3?
A:

To upgrade to CleanMyMac 3, please visit the MacPaw Store. At the bottom of the Store page there is an Upgrade to CleanMyMac 3 option for users who have a previous version of CleanMyMac.  

Click the Upgrade Now button, and you will be prompted to enter your email into a field in the dialog. Enter your email and click Verify. After your email is verified, choose the type of license you would like to purchase. Then proceed to checkout, where your upgrade discount will be applied.

Is it safe to use CleanMyMac 3?
A:

CleanMyMac 3 is different from other cleaners because of its simplicity and safety. CleanMyMac 3 has a Safety Database that has been regularly updated for the past 5 years. If you would like to read more about what makes CleanMyMac 3 safe, click here.

Q:
How exactly does Photo Junk work?
A:

The Photo Junk module scans your Photos library (or iPhoto, if you haven’t upgraded to Photos yet) to remove useless junk. In Photos, it’s iCloud local copies, Faces cache, and other app-related cache. In iPhoto, it’s invisible versions of files that were automatically or manually modified. For instance, if you imported a photo from your camera and then rotated and cropped it, iPhoto will keep an unrotated, uncropped copy of it as a backup. You can remove these unnecessary files to significantly decrease the size of your photo library.

You may have noticed CleanMyMac 2 can no longer be found on our site. That’s because we have replaced it with CleanMyMac 3. We truly loved the CleanMyMac 2 app, but we believe that CleanMyMac 3 is so much better. 

For all users who would like to continue using CleanMyMac 2, the FAQ and Knowledge Base sections about CleanMyMac 2 will remain available on the MacPaw website.  We will also continue to provide support for users who have decided to keep using CleanMyMac 2. If you would like to download the latest version of CleanMyMac 2, you can follow this download link. However, in order to keep improving the services and products we provide to the Mac community, only CleanMyMac 3 will be available for sale.
