iPhone X tech specs and features: Is it still worth buying?

Every year Apple releases a new iPhone. And while some people complain that this release cycle is too frequent, others enjoy it for an often overlooked side effect. When a new iPhone comes out, the previous model gets significantly cheaper.

So, if you’re in the market for a new iPhone and doing a bit of research on earlier models, let’s talk about iPhone X. We’ll go over features and find out if it’s still worth the upgrade, even though it’s not the most recent phone.

What are the best features of iPhone X?

When iPhone X was released in late 2017, it was a departure from the phones Apple had been making. Starting with iPhone 6, the phones all had a similar size and shape, with only minor improvements with each iteration. But iPhone X was a clear indication of where iPhone was heading.

iPhone X was the first model to introduce the following features:

  • 5.8” super HD Retina OLED display
  • An edge-to-edge display
  • No home button
  • Face ID
  • True Depth front camera

The iPhone X camera

Continuing the trend introduced in the previous Plus models, iPhone X comes equipped with dual lenses on the rear camera. Shooting at 12 megapixels, iPhone X’s camera was upgraded to a larger sensor and designed to help take sharper and more vibrant pictures, even in low-light conditions.

But photos weren’t the only thing to get better with iPhone X’s camera. Apple also upgraded the video functionality of the camera, offering 4K video at 60fps and a super smooth slow-mo that shoots up to 240fps.

iPhone X size, RAM, and storage

To give the physical dimensions of iPhone X a little bit of context, the phone’s size is right between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. That being said, iPhone X has a bigger screen than even iPhone 8 Plus. Yes, you read that right. Even though iPhone X is smaller than the 8 Plus, it still has a bigger display, stretching 5.8 inches from edge to edge.

While iPhone X did get a nice little RAM bump up to 3 GB, one of the more prominent drawbacks was its storage options. It only comes in two size variations: 64 GB and 256 GB. If you’re someone who likes to take a lot of pictures and videos then it’s with good reason you’d be nervous about getting a phone that only has 64 GB.

Now, before you go and frantically start deleting things off or your iPhone to make room, you could do a quick little cleanup with an app like CleanMy®Phone. It’ll help you use your storage more efficiently by scanning your photo library and deleting the photos you don’t want to keep anymore.

Can you still buy iPhone X and is it worth buying?

Even though you can’t buy iPhone X directly from Apple, you can still find it through a variety of third-party resellers. And when the current models of iPhone came out, the price of iPhone X dropped dramatically.

Keep in mind that when iPhone X was first released, it was also earmarked as the most expensive iPhone to date. So while it’s cheaper than it was, it’s still a couple hundred dollars more than its iPhone 8 Plus counterpart.

The question of whether iPhone X is still worth buying is totally dependent on what you’re hoping to get out of your next iPhone. If you want a phone that still feels current and can hold up with the latest operating systems, then iPhone X is definitely a great option, even if it is a little bit pricey.

The release of iPhone X marked an important step for Apple. It was the refresh the product line was in desperate need of, and iPhone X couldn't be more different from iPhone 8 Plus, its predecessor. Even today, iPhone X is still an impressive phone and is only going to get better as Apple continues making feature improvements with new iOS updates.
