MacPaw Labs to discontinue GifTV, Opti and Open the World

With a heavy heart, we've decided to sunset several MacPaw Labs products this August: GifTV, Opti and Open the World.

Wow, what a ride! We developed these lovely tvOS applications back in 2015 when Apple released its 4th generation AppleTV. Throughout the next five years, we've learned a lot about this platform, APIs and the market in general. We've spent hundreds of hours testing, improving and trying to enrich your experience with these apps. Take a look for yourself — we've got some cozy, nostalgic photos:

Here we are syncing on Opti updates back in the days.

This one was shot during the GifTV development.

And here's one with Hoover testing the interface.

That said, all good things come to an end, especially if they haven't lived up to the expectations. The main reasons for the sunset are low interest from customers, reputation and privacy risks, and upcoming support of new operating systems.

We hope you've enjoyed GifTV, Opti and Open the World at least as much as we have while developing them. Maybe, one of these apps has been a lifechanging experience for you. You never know. However, now it's time for us to move on and focus on other cool and innovative stuff you'll definitely like!

The sunset will require no actions from your side. If you’re already using these apps — no worries, simply continue enjoying them. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. And remember this photo from Open the World, because you are awesome. To infinity and beyond!
