Explore login items

(Updated: )

Applications that open automatically when you start your Mac can slow it down, even when you don't need them right away. CleanMyMac lets you review these login items and remove the ones you don't need, so your Mac doesn't spend performance on unnecessary processes.

  1. In CleanMyMac, click Performance in the sidebar, then click Scan.

After scanning, CleanMyMac shows you the scan summary.

  2. In the scan summary, click View All Tasks to review all performance categories.

Alternatively, in the Login Items tile, click Review to go directly to the category.

    CleanMyMac opens the Performance Manager.

    Tip

To start a new scan, click Start Over in the upper-left corner and confirm, then click Scan.

  3. In the Login Items category, review the found items.

You can search for specific items and sort them by name in ascending or descending order.

    Right-click an item to:

    • Select it for removal
    • Reveal the respective app in Finder
    • Get info about the respective app
    • Preview the respective app in Quick Look

Also, when something seems unfamiliar or you're not sure about an item, click the Smart Insights icon next to that item to get more details. This works in macOS Tahoe 26 or later and if you have Apple Intelligence turned on.

  4. Select items to remove, then click Remove.

    • To select all items at once, click Select above the list of items, then choose Select All.

    • To select an item, select the checkbox next to it or right-click it, then choose "Select [item]".

CleanMyMac removes the selected items from your login items. The applications stay on your Mac but no longer open automatically when you start it.

  5. Check the results.

    • To review the details, click View Log.

    • To keep reviewing other categories, click Manage More Items to return to the Performance Manager.

    • To go back to the scan summary, click Done.
