You can deactivate Instagram account on your phone or your computer by following the steps below. If you find that you aren’t quite ready to give up Instagram permanently, you can easily reactivate it.

Deactivate Instagram account on an iPhone

The first thing you should know is that you can’t deactivate your Instagram account on an iPhone using the native Instagram app. Instead, you will have to do that using your iPhone's internet browser. 

Here’s how to deactivate your Instagram account:

1. Open your iPhone’s browser and go to Instagram.com. Whatever browser you use (Safari, Chrome, etc.) will work for this.
2. Log into your account, head to your profile page, and tap Edit Profile. 
3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap “Temporarily disable my account”
4. Fill in the box next to “Why are you disabling your account?” with the appropriate answer.
5. Re-enter your password.
6. Tap “Temporarily disable my account” one more time.

How to disable your Instagram account on your PC

Deactivating your Instagram account on a desktop computer is very similar. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open your browser and navigate to Instagram.com.
2. Log into your account and visit your profile page. 
3. Click Edit Profile, which is right next to your username. 
4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Temporarily disable my account.” 
5. A new screen will pop up with a few more questions. Fill in the box that asks “Why are you disabling your account?”
6. Re-enter your Instagram password.
7. Click “Temporarily disable my account.”

What happens when you deactivate your Instagram?

When you deactivate your Instagram account, it becomes totally invisible. Your followers will not be able to see your photos or your profile, and your photos will not show up in hashtag or geotag searches. How do I delete an Instagram account that I can't log into?
