CleanMyMac Classic is no longer developed

Since April 2023, MacPaw no longer sells, updates, or develops CleanMyMac Classic. However:

  • the app still works on Mac operating systems 10.4-10.8
  • all purchased licenses remain effective
  • our Customer Support will continue to address requests from CleanMyMac Classic users

Only the customers who have already purchased a license can activate CleanMyMac Classic and therefore access all of its features.

We recommend upgrading to CleanMyMac X, if possible.

In this article:

Why do we stop developing CleanMyMac Classic?

Apple doesn't support its old operating systems. Without updates, these systems are vulnerable to stability and security risks. It is impossible to address all those risks because they are too many and can be very serious. As a result, we cannot guarantee that CleanMyMac Classic, which only works on old systems, always stays stable and safe.

Besides, some essential features in the new version of CleanMyMac, CleanMyMac X, rely on technologies unavailable in the older macOS versions. This doesn’t allow us to add these features to CleanMyMac Classic, which is designed for older systems only.

With such risks and limitations, we can’t ensure that our users, who we care about so much, get the best experience and quality — which has always been our priority. So, if possible, follow our upgrade recommendations.

What it means for users that CleanMyMac Classic is not developed

You can still use CleanMyMac Classic

The latest version of the app is stable, safe, and fully functional. The system requirements remain the same:

  • macOS 10.4-10.8
  • An Intel-based processor (M1 or M2 are not supported)
  • 63Mb of space on a hard drive

Please remember about the possible problems with stability and security on the old operating systems. CleanMyMac Classic may work slowly or even quit unexpectedly, and we might be unable to help.

CleanMyMac Classic supports only Mac operating systems 10.4-10.8

In particular, CleanMyMac Classic works on these systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
  • Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
  • Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
  • OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

The app will not open on any other operating system.

The last version of CleanMyMac Classic is 1.12.1

MacPaw will no longer develop any new features, compatibility patches, bug fixes, or improvements for this version of CleanMyMac Classic. We may still release occasional updates to fix critical problems related to the functionality or security of the app. Nevertheless, these releases will not be regular.

You can download CleanMyMac Classic 1.12.1 on this page.

Customer support is still available

Our Support Team is still looking forward to helping the users of CleanMyMac Classic. The app’s Support Portal also remains accessible, with all of its key features:

MacPaw is not selling CleanMyMac Classic starting April 2023

You can only activate the app if you’ve bought a license before. The non-activated CleanMyMac Classic has the same limitations as in the free trial.

All licenses purchased earlier remain effective and do not have an expiration date.

If you need a modern app to clean, maintain, and protect your computer, we suggest looking at CleanMyMac X.
