Since April 2023, MacPaw no longer sells, updates, or develops Gemini Classic. However:
- the app still works on Mac operating systems 10.7-10.9
- all purchased licenses remain effective
- our Customer Support will continue to address requests from Gemini Classic users
Only the customers who have already purchased a license can activate Gemini Classic and therefore access all of its features.
We recommend upgrading to Gemini 2, if possible.

Why do we stop developing Gemini Classic?
Apple doesn't support its old operating systems. Without updates, these systems are vulnerable to stability and security risks. It is impossible to address all those risks because they are too many and can be very serious. As a result, we cannot guarantee that Gemini Classic, which only works on old systems, always stays stable and safe.
Besides, some essential features in the new version of Gemini, Gemini 2, rely on technologies unavailable in the older macOS versions. This doesn’t allow us to add these features to Gemini Classic, which is designed for older systems only.
With such risks and limitations, we can’t ensure that our users, who we care about so much, get the best experience and quality — which has always been our priority. So, if possible, follow our upgrade recommendations.
What it means for users that Gemini Classic is not developed
You can still use Gemini Classic
The latest version of the app is stable, safe, and fully functional. The system requirements remain the same:
- macOS 10.7-10.9
- An Intel-based processor (M1 or M2 are not supported)
- 63Mb of space on a hard drive
Please remember about the possible problems with stability and security on the old operating systems. Gemini Classic may work slowly or even quit unexpectedly, and we might be unable to help.
Gemini Classic supports only Mac operating systems 10.7-10.9
In particular, Gemini Classic works on these systems:
- Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
- OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
- OS X 10.9 Mavericks
The app will not open on any other operating system.
The last version of Gemini Classic is 1.6.3
MacPaw will no longer develop any new features, compatibility patches, bug fixes, or improvements for this version of Gemini Classic. We may still release occasional updates to fix critical problems related to the functionality or security of the app. Nevertheless, these releases will not be regular.
You can download Gemini Classic 1.6.3 on this page.
Customer support is still available
Our Support Team is still looking forward to helping the users of Gemini Classic. The app’s Support Portal also remains accessible, with all of its key features:
MacPaw is not selling Gemini Classic starting April 2023
You can only activate the app if you’ve bought a license before. The non-activated Gemini Classic has the same limitations as in the free trial.
All licenses purchased earlier remain effective and do not have an expiration date.
If you didn't have time to purchase Gemini Classic and you're still looking for a modern app to work with file duplicates, we recommend Gemini 2 and Gemini Photos.
Get Gemini Classic
- Download Gemini Classic on the page with stable builds of older MacPaw apps.
- Install and activate Gemini Classic using a purchased license.
Can't find your activation number? Use the License Manager.
Never had a Gemini Classic license? Sorry, but we don't sell Gemini Classic anymore. May we suggest purchasing Gemini 2 instead?
If you have a Gemini Classic license and your Mac can run macOS 10.10 or newer, we suggest purchasing Gemini 2 at a 50% discount on this page. For more guidance, see the support article.
