Real-Time Protection

(Updated: )

What’s monitored in real time

Moonlock continuously watches key areas of your system for signs of malicious behavior or unauthorized changes. This includes:

  1. File activity: New files, downloads, and installations are scanned instantly to detect malware, ransomware, and other threats.
  2. Network activity: Unusual outbound or inbound network connections are tracked all the meanwhile VPN status and traffic encryption are maintained (if VPN module is active).
  3. Application behavior: Apps are monitored for suspicious actions such as system modification, privilege escalation, or unexpected network access.
  4. System integrity: Critical system areas and security-related settings are checked to prevent tampering or exploitation.
  5. Downloads and external devices: Moonlock scans downloadables, files from external drives or USB devices instantly upon connection

Such a proactive approach to monitoring allows Moonlock to detect both known and emerging threats before they can spread or cause damage.

Balancing protection and performance

Real-time protection is only effective if it doesn't slow you down. Moonlock is built with performance in mind, using macOS-native technologies and smart resource management to avoid draining system resources.

Scans are optimized to run in the background with minimal impact on CPU and battery life. Prioritizing high-risk locations and skipping safe or unchanged files whenever possible, file checks are quick, targeted, and intelligent.

Work, browse, create, and share without interruption or hesitation. Your Mac is safe around the clock.

Exclusions and trusted items

When Moonlock scans your system, you can mark certain files or apps as Trusted Items if you know they’re safe. These trusted entries are stored and flagged in the Detection History section, where you can easily review, manage, or change their trust status at any time.
