Can you download Netflix on Mac?

Netflix is one of the most popular movie and TV streaming services, despite lots of competition from the likes of Apple, Amazon, and Disney. One of its best features is that, as well as streaming movies and TV shows, you can download and watch them offline later. But we Mac users have one question: can I download Netflix on MacBook? If you can, how do you do it? We’ll explain everything in this article.

Can you download Netflix on MacBook?

You can watch Netflix movies and TV shows in a browser on your Mac, but you can’t download them to watch offline later. Nor is there a Netflix app for Mac. So, while you can download content on an iPhone, iPad, Windows PC, or even a Chromebook, you can’t do it on a Mac.

However, if you have an Intel-based Mac, you can create a Boot Camp partition, install Windows, and use the Windows Netflix app to access your Netflix account. Then, you could download movies and TV shows to Windows. However, to watch them, you would have to boot your Mac into Windows first.

You could also download content to your iPhone or iPad and AirPlay it to your Mac, though both devices would need to be connected to Wi-Fi for that to work.

Running Netflix on Windows on your Mac is likely to be pretty demanding on its resources. You’ll need lots of free space to install Windows and download Netflix content. One of the best ways to free up space without causing any disruption is to clear out junk files. These files accumulate on your Mac over time and include temporary files that should have been deleted but weren’t, old cache and log files, files for languages you don’t use, and leftovers from apps you’ve long since removed. As well as free space, you should make sure your Mac is running as speedily and smoothly as possible. Streaming high-definition movies and TV shows in Windows via Boot Camp is pretty demanding, and you don’t want anything running in the background using up resources if it doesn’t need to. Finally, make sure the Mac is free from malware. That would really slow it down and cause all kinds of problems when you try to download Netflix movies.

Doing all of that on your own would be a serious headache. Not only would it take a lot of time, but most of us wouldn’t know where to begin looking for junk or disabling background processes. Thankfully, help is at hand. CleanMyMac X’s Smart Scan module will do all the hard work for you, tracking down junk files, looking for login items and launch agents, and checking for malicious software. Once it’s done, you can remove everything it has found or choose for yourself what to remove and what to keep. You can download CleanMyMac X for free here.
