Delete AI clutter

(Updated: )

AI tools store data on your Mac as you use them, including caches, logs, temporary files, and downloaded models, and this data can take up significant space over time. CleanMyMac finds these files so you can review them and remove what you no longer need.

To find and remove AI clutter:

  1. Open CleanMyMac, go to Cleanup in the sidebar, and click Scan.

When the scan finishes, CleanMyMac displays a summary of the results.

  2. To review all junk categories, click Review All Junk in the scan summary.

Alternatively, click Review in the AI Clutter tile to go directly to the category.

    Tip

To start a new scan, click Start Over in the upper-left corner and confirm, then click Scan.

    The Cleanup Manager opens.

  3. In the AI Clutter category, review the items in each group:

    • AI Junk Files — Caches, logs, and temporary files created by AI tools such as Claude, Codex, Gemini, and Cursor.

    • Local Models — Models downloaded with Ollama and LM Studio, which can take up several gigabytes each. Compare similar versions, check whether your Mac can run them, and choose which ones to remove.

    Note

If you open the category by clicking Review in the AI Clutter tile, you can review, select, and clean up only AI Junk Files. To work with Local Models, open the category by clicking Review All Junk instead.

To find a specific item, use the search field.

To change the order of the list, click "Sort by" and choose to sort by size or name, in ascending or descending order.

To act on a single item, right-click it, then choose to select it or add it to the ignore list.

To learn more about an item you don't recognize, click the Smart Insights icon next to it. Smart Insights is available in macOS Tahoe 26 or later and requires Apple Intelligence to be turned on.

  4. Select the items you want to remove, then click Clean Up.

    • To select all items in a group, right-click the group, or open the Select menu above the list and choose Select All.

    • To select a single item, click the checkbox next to it, or right-click it and choose "Select [item]".

    Note

CleanMyMac removes items only from the category that's currently open. For example, if you select items in the AI Clutter category, then switch to the Mail Attachments category and click Clean Up there, CleanMyMac deletes only items in the Mail Attachments category.

  5. Review the results.

    • To get details, click View Log.

    • To keep reviewing other categories, click Review Remaining Items to return to the Cleanup Manager.

    • To go back to the scan summary, click Done.
