Review and close old tabs
(Updated: )Tabs you opened for a quick task hours or even days ago tend to stay open long after you need them. They add to the clutter and keep using Mac resources in the background.
Browser Care collects tabs that have been open for too long, so you can review them and close the ones you no longer need. You decide what "too long" means: six hours, one day, three days, or a number of days you choose.
Find old tabs
A tab counts as old based on how long it has been open, not on how long it's been since you last used it. Browser Care checks the tabs across all windows of your current Chrome profile.
To find old tabs:
In Browser Care, click Overview.
Find the Old Tabs card.
The card shows the time limit and the number of old tabs.
If there are no old tabs, the card says "No old tabs".
Click the Old Tabs card to expand it.
In the expanded card, the tabs that have been open the longest are at the top. Each tab shows its name, its domain, and how long it's been open. Paused tabs are included, and they appear dimmed.
Close old tabs
Close a single tab
In the expanded Old Tabs card, hold the pointer over a tab.
Click Close (
).Browser Care closes the tab.
Close all old tabs at once
In the expanded Old Tabs card, click Close All Old Tabs.
Close All Old Tabs closes every tab in the list. Review the list before you click the button.
Change the time limit for old tabs
By default, Browser Care treats tabs that have been open for more than one day as old. To change the time limit:
In Browser Care, click Settings (
) in the bottom-right corner.Next to "Mark tabs as old after", choose a time limit:
- 6 hours
- 1 day
- 3 days
- Custom — enter a number of days from 1 to 365
Click Back to return to Browser Care.
The Old Tabs card updates to reflect the new time limit.
To remove extra copies of the same page, review duplicate tabs.
