Set scan depth and speed

CleanMyMac uses Moonlock Engine — our malware detection technology — to spot and identify malware on your Mac. It lets you choose between different scan modes depending on whether you prefer faster scans, more comprehensive detection, or a balance of both.

1. Open CleanMyMac, go to the Protection module, then click Configure Scan.

   

   Alternatively, open CleanMyMac and either choose CleanMyMac > Settings from the menu bar or press Command-Comma (⌘-,).

   

2. On the Protection tab, choose one of the available scan modes.

   Quick ScanBalanced ScanDeep Scan

   Choose this mode when scan speed is your priority. CleanMyMac checks locations where malware is most commonly found and applies standard malware detection rules to identify common threats.

   Quick Scan completes faster than other scan modes but provides less comprehensive coverage.

   Choose this mode if you want a balance between scan speed and detection coverage. CleanMyMac scans additional locations and applies more advanced detection rules to identify a broader range of threats.

   Balanced Scan takes longer than Quick Scan but provides more comprehensive protection.

   Choose this mode for the most thorough malware scan. CleanMyMac applies additional detection rules and checks for less common threats that may not be identified during faster scans.

   Deep Scan requires more time and system resources than other scan modes but provides the most comprehensive coverage.
