Volume rollout via Jamf

(Updated: )

Volume rollout is a token-based approach for deploying CleanMyMac Business at scale—ideal for large organizations. At a glance, the process involves:

  • Downloading (or creating), signing, and distributing a configuration profile via Jamf.

  • Creating an activation token to enroll and activate CleanMyMac Business user accounts and devices.

  • Distributing the CleanMyMac Business desktop app via Jamf using an installation script and a device policy.

Step 1. Get started with rollout

  1. Sign in to your Owner or Admin account in the CleanMyMac Business Admin Dashboard.

  2. Go to Users and Licenses, then click Invite User.

  3. In the dialog that opens, select Volume Rollout, then click Next.

  4. Review the general information about the procedure, then click Next.

  5. Click Download to get the pre-created configuration profile for ditribution via Jamf, then click Next.

    Note

If you prefer to create a configuration profile manually, refer to the related instructions.

  6. Create an activation token:

    • Provide a descriptive name for the token.
    • Choose the token expiration period: 90, 180, or 365 days, or Unlimited.

Click Create Activation Token. You can later review this and all other tokens in the Activation Tokens section.

  7. Review the script content that will be used later to deploy CleanMyMac Business desktop app, then copy the command to run this script—this command will be used later in the Jamf distribution script—and click Complete.

  8. Review the summary, then click Got It to close the dialog.

Next, in Jamf Pro, distribute the configuration profile, then create a distribution script and a device policy to deploy the CleanMyMac Business desktop app to all Jamf-managed devices.

Step 2. Distribute configuration profile

Tip

Although most MDM solutions don't require profiles to be signed, we recommend signing the configuration profile when sharing it externally.

  1. In the Jamf Pro Dashboard, go to Computers > Configuration Profiles.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click Upload, then choose the previously downloaded or created configuration profile.

Step 3. Create distribution script

  1. In the Jamf Pro Dashboard, go to Settings.

  2. Go to the Computer management tab, then find and click Scripts.

  3. Click New in the upper-right corner to create a script.

    • On the General tab, provide a descriptive name for the script, select a category, and enter other details as needed.

    • On the Script tab, enter the installation command you copied earlier from the CleanMyMac Business Admin Dashboard, for example:

      curl -fsSL https://download.macpaw.com/cmm-business-stage/mdm/install_cmmb.sh | bash -s -- "$1" "$2" "$3" "$4"

    • On the Options tab, in the Parameter 4 box, enter a label such as Activation Token—this will later be used in the device policy.

Click Save in the lower-right corner to create the script.

You've now created the distribution script. The next step is to create a device policy that uses this script to deploy the CleanMyMac Business desktop app.

Step 4. Create device policy

  1. In the Jamf Pro Dashboard, go to Computers > Policies.

  2. Click New in the upper-right corner to create a policy.

    1. On the Options tab, in the General section, provide a descriptive name for the policy and choose triggers (for example, Login).

    2. On the Options tab, in the Scripts section:

      1. Click Configure.

      2. Find the distribution script you created earlier, then click Add next to it.

      3. In the Activation Token box (re-labeled Parameter 4 in the distribution script), enter the activation token you created in the CleanMyMac Business Admin Dashboard for the rollout.

    3. On the Scope tab, choose the target computers and users (for example, All Computers and All Users).

Click Save in the lower-right corner to create the policy.

You've now completed all steps required to distribute and activate the CleanMyMac Business desktop app on your Jamf-managed devices. The enrolled devices will appear in the CleanMyMac Business Admin Dashboard under Devices and in Users and Licenses.
