Whenever a new iPhone comes out, it’s always tempting to upgrade. And now, with iPhone 11, you might be wondering if you should update from your iPhone XR. Or maybe you have an older phone and are trying to decide which of the two phones you should upgrade to. Well, keep reading! This article will compare iPhone 11 and iPhone XR so you can see what separates them and hopefully learn the answers to some of the questions you have about the models.
iPhone XR vs. iPhone 11: What has changed?
Both iPhone XR and iPhone 11 were considered to be the baseline models of their lineups. They share a lot of similar traits, including a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD display, Face ID, and a glass and aluminum casing design. But iPhone 11’s upgrades include:
- A dual-lens rear camera
- Longer battery life
- An A13 Bionic processor chip
- Larger storage options
The camera in iPhone XR vs. 11
The area where Apple made the biggest improvements between iPhone XR and iPhone 11 is the rear camera. iPhone 11 has a dual-lens, meaning it not only has the wide lens of the iPhone XR but also has a new ultra-wide lens.
In addition to the extra lens, there are a handful of new specs and features available for iPhone 11. For instance, the front camera on iPhone 11 is 12 megapixels compared to that of iPhone XR, which is only 7 megapixels. The front camera on iPhone 11 is now also capable of recording slow-motion videos, while the rear camera has three new portrait lighting filters and the new Night mode feature, which enhances and brightens pictures taken in low-light conditions.
iPhone XR vs. iPhone 11: Battery life
At a billed 25 hours of talk time, iPhone XR’s battery still is an impressive feature of the phone. But somehow, Apple was able to top it with iPhone 11’s battery. In fact, it’s marketed as boasting an additional hour of performance. This means iPhone 11 is slated to get 26 hours of talk time, 17 hours of video playback, and 65 hours of audio playback.
iPhone 11 vs. iPhone XR: Performance and storage
iPhone 11 wouldn’t be a true upgrade if it didn’t have a few internal specs improved. Where iPhone XR currently comes with the A12 Bionic chip and with 64 GB and 128 GB options for storage, iPhone 11 has the A13 Bionic chip and offers the same storage, plus an additional 256 GB option. So, overall, iPhone 11 is going to run a bit faster and gives you the option to have more internal storage if you need it.
So how do iPhone 11 and XR compare?
At the end of the day, iPhone 11 and iPhone XR are pretty similar. In many ways, iPhone 11 is merely a speed and performance bump from the iPhone XR. Where iPhone 11 truly soars is with its camera. The boosted camera internals and the new wide-angle lens take iPhone 11’s pictures and videos up to another level. But aside from the camera and performance boost, it’s likely that the only difference you’ll notice between the two models is their color options.
Should you buy iPhone 11 or XR?
If you’re upgrading from another iPhone and trying to decide between these two models, then the winner here is iPhone 11. While the two models aren’t vastly different, the camera on iPhone 11 is impressive enough to warrant the price difference. Also, taking into consideration that the iPhone XR is a year older than iPhone 11, it means that the iPhone 11 will likely make it through more software updates than iPhone XR will.
Both iPhone XR and iPhone 11 are great phones and are quite similar in many ways. That being said, we wouldn’t run out to upgrade an iPhone XR to an iPhone 11. Either option, however, will be a noticeable improvement if you’re using an older phone.
